The Portuguese routes to Santiago
The Camino to Santiago is a thousand-year-old route followed by millions of pilgrims since the beginning of the 9th century, when the tomb of St. James (San Tiago) was discovered in Galicia. From all over the world, there are routes that together form one large network, ending in Santiago de Compostela.
In Portugal, there are several routes, of which these are the best known and most walked:
- The Portuguese Camino to Santiago (Central Route) is the most important Portuguese route. It has already been walked by millions of pilgrims.
- The Portuguese Camino along the coast is important because it brings pilgrims from the westernmost part of Portugal to Santiago. Starting in Porto, and then following the coastline north towards Compostela.
For those who do not like the large crowds on the popular routes, there are beautiful alternatives in the North of Portugal.
If you choose Braga as your starting point, you can choose between different routes:
- 3 routes start in Braga: Caminho da Geira e dos Arrieiros (also called the most beautiful of all routes to Santiago), Caminho Minhoto Ribeiro and Caminho de São Rosendo
- 2 other routes pass through Braga: Caminho de Torres (coming from Salamanca) and Caminho Português Central por Braga (the old central route)
- A sixth, the Caminho Português de Santiago de Leon de Rosmithal arrives in Braga, after which you can connect to one of the other existing routes.
Make your dream happen, choose the Camino that suits you best!

Research & Book
I do the research, you book
For a fixed fee, your ‘personal Camino organizer’ will get to work on your wish list.
You will receive a travel program tailored to your needs and with all the information you need (programme per day, accommodation options, a list of tips and points of interest, etc.).
With this formula, you leave the time-consuming preparation to someone who has experience with it and who knows and follows the situation on site: I am your personal Camino organizer!
You answer 4 questions:
- When do you want to walk the Camino and how much time (days) do you have available?
- What distances do you want to walk per day?
- What budget do you want to spend on it?
- Do you have any other wishes regarding your Camino? (e.g. possible stops where you want to spend an extra day, luggage transport, etc.)
Based on your input, I will propose a flexible travel programme that you can continue working with. You pay a fixed fee for this service.*
The only thing you have to do yourself is book your flights and actually arrange or confirm your accommodations. And arrange your time off 😉
The advantages for you:
- You can go on your Camino without having to spend hours or days preparing yourself.
- You will receive a travel programme that you can still be flexible with if you wish.
- In addition, you know that you can fall back on someone with experience and who speaks your language, even when you are on your way to Santiago de Compostela.
- Your personal travel organizer will also be happy to give you practical tips regarding your luggage (what do you take with you?), facilities along the way (such as nice restaurants), transport, weather conditions, etc.
- Particularly when it is your first Camino, this formula can give you that little bit more sense of security than when you are completely on your own, while you still walk ‘your own Camino’, in the way that feels best for you.
Price: from 250,- euros (*fixed fee for preparing your trip)
The price of the overnight stays + other costs depend on the period and duration of your Camino and your personal preference regarding accommodation.
